The Triple Goddess:
There are three stages in a woman's lifecycle: Maiden , Mother and
Crone , as idealised in the Triple Deity Goddess. Each of these three manifestations
represents the different qualities possessed by all women during the three stages of their
lives. Use these archetypes and the rituals (found below) to empower your life and your
magick. The Maiden: Identified by the onset of
menarche, the maiden is pubescent and is recognized by her innocence. The pure (although
not necessarily virginal) Maiden is beholden to no one; she is only responsible for
herself. The Maiden represents the potential in all women: the possibility of what she
might become. In nature, the maiden in the spring. She is fertile and is just starting to
mature. The Maiden is creative and resourceful, has no responsibilities and is constantly
open to new experiences. Ideally a woman should always remain in the Maiden state of mind:
always responsible for her own being while nurturing her own potential in order to realise
her dreams. The Maiden goddess is Diana and Artemis. They are self-sufficient in the woods
where they hunt and do not fear the danger that lurks around every corner.
The Mother:
The Mother: The
represents the zenith of a woman's power by the visible manifestations of her ability to
produce a child. She is identified by her caring and her ability to nurture others. The
Mother acts as the binding glue in society by holding families together with her warmth
and sustaining love. The Mother is responsible, yet aware of the need to grow. She is
sexual and creative and rejoices in variety. In nature The Mother is the ripe, fecund
summer, blossoming and full blown with beauty and possibility realised. She is the full
moon, powerful and evocative. Demeter is the goddess represents The Mother. As the mother
of Persephone, who was abducted and carried off into the underworld by Hades, Demeter
would not rest until her daughter was safe from harm.
The Crone:
The Crone: She is the natural
wise woman. Having put childbirth behind her and no longer experiencing menstruation, The
Crone is able to direct all her energy into gaining knowledge. Wise and compassionate, The
Crone offers guidance and helps those in spiritual need. With her expert knowledge of
herbs, she is natural healer. Having already experienced childbirth, she is the natural
midwife. The Crone's season is winter, a time when the earth lies fallow and many plants
are dormant. Hecate is the goddess who is most often depicted as The Crone. She is the
harbinger of death, yet Hecate also personifies transformation, rebirth and renewal.
Divine Women:
Aphrodite: The Greek goddess of love is
better known by her Roman name Venus. Regarded as the most beautiful of all the goddesses,
she represents the empowered woman; one who does not allow society's constraints to be
imposed upon her. Aphrodite's greatest failing was her vanity about her beauty. If she
felt that a woman competed with her appearance she would conspire to bring about their
downfall. Any woman competed with Aphrodite for a man could also expect to feel her wrath.
Aphrodite is the goddess who governs love and beauty and a woman's love of sexuality and
sensuality. Hence any ritual designed to honour Aphrodite should allow a woman to worship
her feminine uniqueness.
Ritual for Aphrodite:
This ritual should be preformed on a Friday evening during a waxing
moon to make use the strength of the goddess. By the light of three pink candles bathe in
a bath scented with rose oil. Call Aphrodite's name and allow her beauty to wash over you.
As you wash yourself, banish all fears and inhibitions from your psyche. With a large
sponge methodically wash your body, starting with your toes and stroking upwards. Recall
everything that is beautiful and harmonious to you. Focus on this beauty while breathing
in the scent of the roses. When the stroking reaches your face focus on the joy that
beauty has bought to you. Step from the bath and wrap yourself in a large towel or robe.
Focus on the water. Within this water you have cleansed yourself. Pull the plug and watch
the water drain away. By pulling the plug you are symbolically draining the negativity and
self-doubt from your life. Carefully blow out each pink candle and say: I am banishing
self-doubt and negativity from my life. Enter your bedroom and light three red candles.
Stand naked in front of the mirror and watch yourself as you slowly anoint your body with
scented oil. When your body is completely oiled draw yourself to your full height, raising
your hands from your sides stretching them upwards. Draw yourself up to your toes and take
three deep breaths, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. When this
is done allow your eyes to travel over the full length of your body. To your reflection
say this affirmation: I am beautiful. I am worthy. Happiness and love come to me. Blessed
Be Goddess Aphrodite. Repeat this three times, blowing out a candle with each incantation.
Isis:
Isis she is the winged Goddess of Egypt, the
daughter of Nut and the lover and sister of Osiris, god of the Nile's water and
vegetation. Like Ishtar, Isis took on the identity of lesser Goddess until the time when
she was accepted as the all-powerful and universal feminine power. She then became the
Lady of ten thousand names, and grew into Isis Panthea, Isis the all Goddess. Isis is
contradictory yet complimentary. She is both the moon and the mother sun. Isis was a
mourning lover, after Osiris was murdered by their evil brother Set, and also a tender
sister. Isis brings culture and gives health to those who worship her. Isis is ever -
lasting, giving all that she promises to her followers. Use the following as a cleansing
ritual to heal whatever ails you.
Ritual for Isis:
In order to cleanse your health you must first cleanse your life.
Ensure that your surroundings in both your home and your office are exactly as you would
want them. Piles of overdue work at your work place affect your health in many ways, and
can use a build up of toxins within your body which are manifested as stress, stomach and
skin complaints. Allocate whatever time is needed to divest yourself of this work. Then
have a mammoth clean up at home and give to charity all that you have not used within the
past 12 months. Ensure that you do not have a junk room or even a draw, as they serve as
subconscious blocks to clear thought and good health. After completing these cleansing
tasks light a white candle on your altar, burn your favourite oil or incense and give
thanks to Isis.
