Miranda ICQ, a nice alternative to Mirabilis

Miranda, the simple ICQ alternative IM program
Miranda has been developed independent of Mirabilis using the current ICQ protocol standards. It is the
first ICQ clone available for the MS Windows operating system. Miranda allows you to have an ICQ number
and communicate with other ICQ users just like you were using the Mirabilis ICQ program.
Miranda is under development
Miranda is not a full featured Mirabilis ICQ replacement. Miranda sends basic instant messages and URL links.
Miranda will not do direct chat sessions or allow file transfers, but it will when those features are developed.
Miranda will register you as a new user on the ICQ network and allow you to communicate with other ICQ users.
You may also add users that require authorization to your Miranda ICQ list without actually waiting for their
authorization.

Advantages to using Miranda
Some advantages to using Miranda are the fact that there are no banner advertisements and that you will not be
supporting AOL, the Evil Empire of the Internet. Also, Miranda is great for people with less memory or slower
computers. Miranda takes up far less memory and utilizes a fraction of the system resources that Mirabilis ICQ
client consumes.
Known problems with Miranda
Miranda ICQ will not do direct chat at this time. It also seems to have trouble with the ICQ protocol changes.
It is unknown how well it works with newer versions of Mirabilis ICQ clients as opposed to older versions
that use older ICQ protocol standards.
Where to get Miranda
Miranda is now available for download.
