Tony Clifton was the creation of Andy Kaufman. There is the belief that Tony was a completely different person all together. The truth is whenever Andy wasn't dressed as Tony, his friend Bob Zmuda was dressed up as Tony. It was the best alter ego that Andy ever came up with. Tony was nasty, rude, and all together ruthless when it came to talking to people.
